To bring relief and happiness to children in need
A brief introduction of Melrose Home (taken from The Children's Aid Society)
"Melrose Home provides a supportive environment for children between the ages of 3 to 18 years old, a "home away from home" for children and teenagers who need care and protection in a residential setting. These are children whose parents or family members are unable to provide care or to supervise them. Children of other ages are admitted under special circumstances as well depending on their needs. "

Introducing the 'reindeers' at work
The idea of Project Rudolph was first conceived in May 2008 by a group of volunteers. The main objective of the project is to create an enjoyable Christmas for underprivileged children. In addition, the project also aims to enrich the lives of these children through meaningful learning activities.
The inaugural Project Rudolph adopted Sunbeam Place as the home for sharing the Christmas joy in 2008 and in 2009.
The project was conducted in 2 phases. The first phase consisted of fortnightly visits to the Home which included the organization of activities and rapport building between volunteers and the children. The second phase ended with a grand finale of a Christmas party for the children made possible by generous donors and sponsors.
Henceforth, the “reindeers” of Project Rudolph fulfilled their objectives at the end of the rewarding and fulfilling journey.
We continued Project Rudolph 3 by giving weekly tuition children from the low-income families from Cheng San Centre and Ang Mo Kio Centre.

In light of the satisfaction gained and success from the previous round, the project kicks off again as Project Rudolph 4 in Mid-September 2011. The objectives remain centred upon bringing joy and happiness to underprivileged children.

Each session is designed to centre a theme value the team wishes to impart to the children through the enriching activities prepared
2011
Session 1 : Bonding Session - 9 Oct 2011
As this is the first session, we planned games such as 'Blow Wind Blow', 'Evolution Game', 'Knee Tap' and 'Get Across' with the children.
Essentially, the main aim of the session is for kids and facilitators to get to know each other and at the same time, build up their teamwork spirit.
Session 2: Skit and Wishlist - 23 Oct 2011
We started the session off with our volunteer putting up skits which talked about scenarios which may happen in our everyday lives. The main aim is to teach the kids about the different values like honesty, respect, empathy and compassion. The second part of the session was attributed to the kids writing their wishlist for Christmas and to do their Thank You cards for the donors.
Session 3: Maintenance Work - 06 Nov 2011
There will be no interaction with the kids for this session. Instead, we used this session to help clean up the home.
Session 4: Telematch - 13 Nov 2011

All the children gathered for a movie watching session. Titles included 'UP' and 'The Incredibles'
Session 6: Finale and Christmas Party- 25 Dec 2011
We had loads of games, prizes and food in celebration of the joyous occasion!
2010
Session 1 : Bonding Session - 13 Nov 2010
As this is the first session, we planned games such as “rearranging” whereby kids had to position themselves base on –shoe size, birthdate etc - without them talking to each other. “ping pong game” and “ shrinking newspaper” was also played during the session.
Essentially, the main aim of the session is for kids and facilitators to get to know each other and at the same time, build up their teamwork spirit.
Session 2: Strategic Minds - 20 Nov 2010
We started the session off with energizer games like “knee tap” and “all on board” which the kids enjoy a lot and got them hyped up. After which, we played some strategy games like “spider web”, “sequence memory” and” flip the mat” which encourage kids to work their minds and also enable some kids to bring out the ‘leader’ in them.
Session 3: Public Speaking and Communication - 04 Dec 2010
We kick start the session with energizer games because the kids simply love that. After the energizer games, we went on to acting charade which made many kids and facilitator laugh to their heart’s content. This help kids to train up public speaking and hope to bring up their confidence.
Session 4: Excursion Trip - 11 Dec 2010
Instead of keeping learning within the centre, we decided to bring the kids to turtle museum at Chinese garden to allow the kids to learn something which may be of interest to them and something that’s out of their textbooks.
Session 5: Finale & Christmas Party - 18 Dec 2010
We had loads of games, prizes and food in celebration of the joyous occasion!
2009
Session 1 Orientation - 11 October 2009
We opened with a skit based on main characters depicted from popular fantasy fiction "Harry Potter". Thereafter followed by simple yet innovative ice-breaker games such as International Handshake, Choo choo train and Shipwreck, to set the ball rolling.
Essentially the objective of this session was for everyone to get to know each other, and for the children to familiarize with the volunteers.
Session 2 Teamwork - 25 October 2009
Instead of a skit, the team hyped the children with an energizer game before proceeding to more teambuilding activities/games.
Session 3 Respect & Honesty - 8 November 2009
Similarly, we warmed up with an energizer before we welcome the return of skit illustrating some of the common examples of situations encountered by children in schools such as labelling, stealing, and pushing blame.
Through that, the team was trying to demonstrate and reinforce the respectful and honest ways to deal with such situations. After which, the children played a simple game and end the session with learning origami handicraft from the volunteers.
Session 4 Be Responsible & Considerate- 22 November 2009
This time round, we decided to take the kids out of their Home for a breather so we brought them to the Science Centre Omnimax theatre to catch a show - Under The Sea.
The tickets and transport were covered by a newspaper collection/ fund raising done by the volunteers on a Sunday morning, 1 November 2009 at the Sengkang estates.

If you wish to help these children, you are who we are looking for! We could really appreciate if you could look at the list of resources that we need and make some kind donations to us!

b. What's Christmas without presents right? As we are operating on zero grounds, we will need your support in helping us "adopt" presents.
So how does this gift adoption system work? Well, we will release a Gift List around end of November, from which you could pick a gift that you would like to prepare or purchase for a child from the list then inform us of your decision. Arrangements will be made to collect the gifts
from you at your convenience! That's why we say you can be a Santa Claus this Christmas! More details will be up at a later date, so stay tuned! ;)

Our visit to the Science Centre!

We brought the children to the Omni Theatre at Science Centre this morning. All thanks to the hard work by everyone and the kind residents at the newspaper collection, we managed to raise money to bring the children out for a treat!
The kids were elated when they first stepped into the centre. Listen to the capchony of voices and see the glints in their eyes, you know how excited they were to be there. Not to mention that their happiness were doubled with a treat of Oreo cookies and chocolate/strawberry milk (:
Below are some of the pictures before watching the movie. Pictures of the children will not be shown for confidentiality purposes.
There were exclaminations of 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs' as the children watched the movie "Under The Sea'. With its crystal clear images and wraparound digital surround sound, it really felt as though the sea creatures were brought live to the children at the theatre! They watched in awe and kept tugging at our sleeves asking what are the names of the animals. Some were so smart that they actually know the names of the animals better than us haha.
Today is the first time we brought the children for an outing, and today is also the first time we got to know them better outside the home itself. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly just like the children. And all would not have been possible without the help of everyone. Once again, Group Rudolph says a big "Thank You" to all who have played a part in supporting Project Rudolph!
